The Jefferson Italy Center
Decades of Collaboration
The Jefferson Italy Center is the culmination of decades of collaborations between Jefferson and Italy, providing a formal centralized system to identify, organize, coordinate, and promote strategic partnerships between Jefferson and Italian institutions that maximize our collective impact on individual and population health.
It’s a powerful catalyst for innovation, improving countless lives by promoting Jefferson’s core values on the global stage: put people first, be bold and think differently, and do the right thing.
To accomplish this mission, the center has three primary objectives:
- Supplement the development of health professionals from Italy with experiences at Jefferson
- Promote the exchange of research ideas and personnel between Italian institutions and Jefferson
- Conduct path-breaking research
The Jefferson Italy Center is a catalyst for a new era in academic medicine. In an increasingly global academic ecosystem, the opportunities are unbounded for leveraging international institutional partnerships to give life to our vision for redefining humanly possible.
Physicians of the Future
Keeping its promise to deliver world-class healthcare on a global stage, Jefferson has collaborated with Catholic University of the Sacred Heart and Gemelli University Hospital in Rome to create the first-ever sequential-MD program recognized in the United States and European Union.
Global Kidney Exchange
Many healthy donors are not able to give a kidney to a loved one for reasons outside of their control, and ease of kidney exchanges are hindered by the limited availability of organs. As such, Jefferson is in a position to create a first-of-its-kind Global Kidney Exchange (GKE) program to connect matching donors with patients regardless of geographic location.
