Gaining Global Experience

Jefferson’s Philadelphia environment is rich with outside-the-classroom opportunities to engage with people and cultures from across the globe. A very small sample includes:

  • The Nexus Design Factory at Jefferson — one of the Design Factory Global Network’s linked innovation hubs in universities and research organizations on five continents — and the International Interior Design Association Campus Center, which sponsors student competitions, product showcases and networking with global industry professionals.
  • The Global Health Student Consortium — which supports education and service-learning and sponsors the student-organized annual JeffX Global Health Conference. It also facilitates student participation in faculty-led care-delivery programs such as Hansjörg Wyss Wellness Center, Jefferson Latina Clinic and Refugee Health Partners, which provide health care, health education and advocacy for Philadelphia’s diverse immigrant and refugee populations.

Honors Lectures

Schools and centers across Jefferson host scores of talks and seminars with leading scholars and professionals from around the world. The 2020 Philadelphia University Honors Lecture was presented by Lavinia Biagiotti Cigna (pictured above), president and CEO of the Biagiotti Group of Rome, who discussed challenges facing the global fashion industry and its workforce in the coming years.

“The world is our campus. You experience your major in a new setting and expand the possibilities of what you can do — as a professional and a person. You grow your network, meet new friends and mentors, see different places, gain inspiration and communicate across cultures.”
