Erasmus+ for Higher Education Program

Jefferson, through a partnership with Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, Rome, Italy, is the recipient of the Erasmus+ for Higher Education grant funded by the European Union Program (ERASMUS+ 2023-KA 171 – ICM - International Credit Mobility). The grant supports student mobility for training and education, as well as staff mobility for training and teaching between Jefferson and Università Cattolica in two disciplines: Vascular Medicine and Population Health. All activities must be completed by July 31, 2026.

Under this program, the following opportunities are available for Jefferson students and staff at Università Cattolica in Rome, Italy:

Student Mobility

The Erasmus+ program targets students in good standing. The selected students will participate in learning activities and attend research seminars and/or courses.

Mobility for training:

  • 8 postgraduate students (PhD, Doctorate, MD in residency training) or medical students
    • Long-term mobility: A minimum of 2 months
    • Short-term mobility: Between 5 and 30 days (only postgraduate students)

Mobility for studies/research or training:

  • 8 students enrolled in one of the following programs: Master’s degree in Public Health, Population Health, Applied Health Economics and Outcomes Research, Health Policy, Quality and Safety and Data Science.
    •  Long-term mobility: A minimum of 2 months
  • 6 postgraduate students (PhD, Doctorate, MD in residency training)
    • Long-term mobility: A minimum of 2 months
    • Short-term mobility: Between 5 and 30 days

Grant Amount (Students)

As per the Erasmus+ guidelines, the amount of the mobility grant includes a contribution for travel (1 round-trip ticket per beneficiary) and a scholarship covering meals/accommodations. For student mobility for training or studies, a long mobility grant for stay will be in the amount of 850 (Euro) a month for 30 days and a travel grant in the amount of 820 (Euro) for a duration minimum of two months (60 days). For students in short-term mobility, a travel grant will be provided in the amount of 820 (Euro). Additionally, a grant for stay (excluding travel days) will be allocated for the first 14 days at 79 (Euro) per day and for days 15 through 30 at 59 (Euro) per day for durations ranging from 5 to 30 days.

Staff Mobility

The Erasmus+ program fosters faculty and administrative staff to advance their educational experience and gain new expertise. Faculty will be teaching at the partner institution and share experience, views and methods about the selected disciplines. Administrative staff will exchange knowledge on administrative procedures related to international mobility, by shadowing their partner counterparts and through peer-to-peer training.

  • 10 slots 
  • 1 week (5 days + 2 travel days)

  • 1 week (5 days + 2 travel days)
  • 8 minimum teaching hours

Grant Amount (Staff)

As per the Erasmus+ guidelines, the amount of the mobility grant includes a contribution for travel (1 round-trip ticket per beneficiary) and meals/accommodations. For both staff mobility for teaching and staff mobility for training, a grant for stay will be in the amount of 160 (Euro) a day and a travel grant in the amount of 820 (Euro) for a duration minimum of one week (5 days + 2 travel days). 

Selection process

The selection of the applicants will be made by the Joint Faculty Council, which is composed by Dr. Andrea Flex, Dr. Walter Ricciardi, and Dr. Stefania Boccia, Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, and by Dr. Vittorio Maio, Dr. Anna Flattau, and Dr. Paul Dimuzio, Thomas Jefferson University.
